About the Food Bank

The Alameda County Community Food Bank is the central clearinghouse and distribution point for serving the hungry throughout Alameda County. Through their network of 275 member agencies (over 160 of which are in Oakland), the Food Bank provides the food for 300,000 meals every week. The Food Bank takes food from growers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and donations, and sorts it at their Oakland facility out near the airport. They send the food to their partners (food panties, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, etc.) who then distribute it to people in need. 40,000 people are fed weekly through this system.
